-
Do you have a DI2 battery holder for the Fray seat post? If not, what is your recommendation for mounting the DI2 battery?
Yes, the Aero seatpost that comes with the Fray includes a Di2 plug shaped for the D shaped Aero Seatpost.
-
What type of rear derailleur hanger is used on the Fray?
- The Fray uses a UDH hanger, available from wherever you source your SRAM components. This rear UDH hanger also allows the installation of specific, UDH-type rear derailleurs, per SRAM's guidance.
-
I'd like to pre-order the DI2 cables for my Fray, what length do you recommend?
Due to all the various bar, stem, and frame sizes, we do not have the exact answer to this for every combination. For Di2 cables, lengths, and compatibility, please reach out to your authorized ENVE dealer who you plan to purchase your Fray from as they will be able to help guide you in your purchase.
-
What type of carbon is the Fray built with?
- The brand, modulus, and other technical aspects of the specific carbon fibers are less important than the processes used to create the final product. ENVE uses Material Optimized Design or M.O.D. carbon in our construction. This means we use the best fiber for the required performance outcome in the part. The majority of ENVE’s products are created using unidirectional pre-preg carbon fibers, but we also employee the use of a variety of woven and spread tow fibers, strategically laid to perform a specific outcome in the part when it is called for. If it says ENVE, rest assured that you are riding the best carbon product available.
-
What is the weight of the Fray
- Frame Weight: 900g (+/-50g) (56cm, Painted, No Hardware)
-
What parts can be upgraded on the Fray from how it is stock-equipped?
- The Fray is purchased as a Chassis which includes a frame, fork, headset, handlebar, stem, and seatpost. Headset bearings can be upgraded. The seatpost is proprietary, but the handlebar and stem in theory can be swapped to something other than ENVE. However, the ability to internally route the front-end cannot be guaranteed when using aftermarket parts.
-
What parts on the frame are proprietary?
- The Fray requires the use of the ENVE Aero Seatpost.
- For guaranteed internal front-end routing, the ENVE/Fray headset top bearing cover, ENVE IN-Route Stem, and a compatible ENVE handlebar must be used.
-
What is the thickness of the rear Non-Drive Chainstay at the rear brake caliper? This measurement can dictate length of rear caliper bolts needed from various brake brands.
- Rear Chainstay on Melee, MOG, and Fray are all 25mm regardless of frame size.
-
Is there a Ready to Paint option?
- There is not an RTP option currently. However, custom decal kits are available to personalize your frame graphics.
-
Does the Fray Chassis come with the finishing kit?
Yes, all that you see in Frame Finishing Kit, is included.
-
If I'd like to match my RIM decals to the Fray, what is the closest color?
-
- See article: MY24 FRAME PAINT TO PANTONE COLOR GUIDE
-
-
What is the torque spec on the frame's seatpost wedge bolt?
- It is 6nm.
-
Can you upgrade the headset bearing directly from ENVE?
- No upgrade options are available from ENVE directly. The Fray comes equipped with an ENVE Integrated IS 52/IS 52 internal Drop in – 1.5” IS 52 upper and lower bearing. The exact bearing dimensions are 40x52x7 mm, 45/45 Degree.
-
Does the fork use a crown race? The front-end routing shows a crown race?
- The Fray fork, (same as ENVE IN-Route All Road Fork) requires the use of a 1.5”/40mm inner diameter crown race.
-
How many spacers come with the chassis and what will fit under the stem and the top cap?
-
Headset Spacers are included in the box with our IN-Route stem: 3x 10mm and 2x 5mm come in the stem box.
-
The frame allows a maximum of 40mm of spacers between the bottom of the stem and the top of the bearing cover. You are welcome to run zero spacers between the top bearing cover and the stem to achieve the lowest stem stack position possible.
-
-
Are additional headset spacers available?
- Yes. 300-1029-026 includes 2x 5mm spacers and 300-1029-027 includes 2x 10mm spacers. These are unique spacers for the IN-Route stem and front end that are split in the center to allow for install of internally routed cables.
-
How thick is the headset top bearing cover?
- The top bearing cover that sits below the headset spacers is 8mm thick.
-
Can I ship you my own parts for installation at ENVE?
- Currently, we are not offering a complete bike build from ENVE. ENVE Ride Centers and select premium dealers will have Fray Chassis available in store and will facilitate drivetrain transfers from your existing bike or a complete build with your drivetrain of choice.
-
What is the return policy?
- All Fray frames are purchased through authorized ENVE dealers. The dealer return policy is defined by the retail partner. See ENVE return policy HERE
-
Does the Fray have a rider weight limit?
- The rider weight limit is 300 lbs.
-
I've crashed or damaged my frame, what do I do?
- Please see the ENVE Incidental Protection Policy
-
What is the largest tire I can fit in the front and rear of the Fray?
-
The Fray was designed to provide clearance for a measured 40mm tire when running a 1X drivetrain
-
The Fray was designed to provide clearance for a measured 38mm tire when running a 2X drivetrain
-
This does not mean that no 40mm tires and/or all 38mm tires will work with a 2X drivetrain. All tires are measured and stretch differently when inflated. Test fit all tires on your bike before purchase when possible.
-
-
Which drivetrains are Non-Compatible Drive trains and why?
- Campy and SRAM mechanical 2X drivetrains are not compatible because the Fray needs continuous housing to the Front Derailleur.
- Wired Campy EPS will not work due to the large size of the plugs at the ends of EPS wires
- Shimano GRX 2x 48/31T build will not work. Front der hanger will not allow for low enough position for derailleur to accommodate proper shifting.
- SRAM T-Type/Mullet builds are not officially compatible. This is due to the minimum chainstay length recommended from SRAM. SRAM's guidance states 425mm chainstay minimum. We have found that our 420mm chainstays function with Mullet setups so the 60cm Fray appears to work fine. All other Fray frame sizes though have chainstay lengths between 415-417mm so we cannot recommend those.
-
I will be using my ENVE bike exclusively with 40mm tires and riding gravel. Is the Fray the best bike for me?
- In general, we would steer you toward the MOG if you are running exclusively gravel and 40mm tires. While it can accommodate up to 40mm tires, the Fray is optimized for 31-35mm tires. While it can handle gravel riding and is an extremely versatile platform, if the bike you're looking for will be used specifically on gravel and with wider tires like 40mm, we'd steer you toward the MOG.
-
Does the Fray come with a drive-side chain stay protector for the frame?
- Yes - SKU:100-5003-904 - Service Frame Protection Sticker Kit A
-
Will that chain stay protector be available for purchase after that?
- Yes
-
What type of Bottom Bracket does this frame require?
- T47 Inboard Bearing
-
What is the BB shell width?
- 85.5mm is the bb shell width. The Fray Frame uses a standard INBOARD T47 Bottom Bracket. In terms of crank compatibility, we defer to the bottom bracket manufacturer to state which cranks work with their T47 BB. Spacers for bottom brackets or cranks needed for installation should all be included with bottom brackets or cranksets.
- 1X: WIDE/XPLR drivetrains must be run with WIDE/XPLR Cranksets/bottom brackets (47.5 chainline crank)
-
Is the bike shipped with a BB?
- No. The bottom Bracket is not included and is specific to the crank brand.
-
What is the torque spec for the T47 bottom bracket?
- BB torque spec is determined by the listed torque spec on your BB. If there is no torque spec listed on the BB or the company would like you to defer to the bike manufacturer, we recommend 40Nm.
-
What types of bottom brackets work on the Fray?
- Any T47 Inboard Bearing bottom bracket

What frame size should I purchase?
- If you do not know your fit stack and fit reach, we recommend that you procure a professional bike fit to help ensure you will be fit properly on your Fray.
- If you know your fit numbers, the ENVE Best-Fit Calculator is available to guide you in finding your ideal frame size, stem length, spacer stack, and seatpost offset.
-
How do I calculate the fit stack from your frame stack with the headset and spacers installed?
- The stack is measured to the top of the frame and does not include the 8mm top cap. To find the stack, you would take the stack of the frame as listed by size and add 8mm to that. After you have that number you would add any spacers to the stack on top of that number.
-
Is the stem interchangeable?
- The Fray is designed to seamlessly integrate with the ENVE IN-Route Stem. While it may be possible to run an aftermarket stem, we do not recommend it. An aftermarket stem will potentially create routing and compatibility problems. Most importantly though, we do not offer a top bearing cover that can accommodate the entrance of housing or hoses into the head tube and therefore the head tube and headset bearings would be exposed to the elements of one elected to use an aftermarket stem.
-
How should I tighten the stem clamp around the handlebar?
-
Tighten both top bolts first to spec. The top bolts are no gap. Then tighten bottom bolts to spec. These should show a gap. 6nm for top and bottom
-
-
Is the Bar interchangeable?
- Yes. All ENVE handlebars that feature IN-Route compatibility can be used.
-
How would you categorize the ride characteristic of the Fray? What is it similar to?
-
The Fray is a performance road bike with geometry and handling that is slightly more relaxed than the Melee, which is a purpose-built road race bike. The Fray loves long sweeping corners, mountain passes, and long and sometimes rough roads. It’s the bike you should probably be riding if you’re not road/criterium racing on the regular. Despite the Fray’s ample tire clearance, it IS NOT a gravel bike and will leave those attempting to use it as such wanting for more. If you want a bike that will be ridden off-road with tires >38mm, look to the MOG. If a tire <38mm is preferred for the gravel/offroad riding you do, the Fray may be perfect for you.
-
-
How would you categorize the Fray Geometry compared to the Melee, Custom Road, and MOG?
- The Fray is best categorized as an endurance/all-road bicycle. As such, the Fray’s geometry is more relaxed than the Melee’s purpose-built race geometry. The Custom Road, being a full-custom bespoke build, can be made with either a race or endurance/all-road geometry. The Fray is a road bike and the MOG is a gravel bike. Compared to the MOG, the Fray has a shorter wheelbase, slightly taller stack, and much steeper headtube angle to ensure confident handling on the road.

-
What headset comes with the bike?
- ENVE Integrated IS 52/IS 52 internal Drop in – 1.5” IS 52 upper and lower Bearing with a 40ID made by Token.
-
Why should I buy an ENVE Fray over another similar competitor?
- ENVE is new to the frame game, but we’re not new to composites and aerodynamic design. After more than a decade of developing rim shapes in the fastest frames on the planet, we’ve learned a thing or two about what makes a bike fast. As a wheels-first brand, we have the unique opportunity to design a frame from the wheels up, not the frame down. The result is a complete bicycle and wheel system that achieves holistic real-world performance that those who don’t have wheel experience are more greatly challenged to achieve.
-
What countries will this be available at launch?
- USA, Canada, UK, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Japan, South Korea, China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, Indonesia, Cambodia, Malaysia, Australia, New Zealand, Czech Republic, Poland.
-
What is the brake setup for the fork? (Flat mount, post mount?)
- Flat Mount disc brake
-
Does the frame come with brake caliper bolts?
- For the brake calipers you elect to install on your Fray, you'll use the caliper bolts supplied with your brake caliper from the brake manufacturer, as the distance through the frame to the caliper is a distance that works fine with standard brake caliper bolts.
-
What are the max rotor sizes?
- Fork 160 or180
- Frame 160 or140
-
Are there fender mounts?
- Yes
-
Is there an owner's manual?
- No there will be no official Fray Owner's manual at this time. However, please scan the QR code on the hang tag that comes with the bike. This will bring you to our support site for all pertinent information including warranty information, product registration instructions, and assembly instructions.
-
Where can I find torque specs?
- Torque specs on all components can be found on those specific components.
- Where can I find bolt sizes or small parts?
-
How big of a chainring in general can you run?
-
For a road double crank, we’ve tested up to 55T big ring and 42T small ring.
-
For 1x cranks: The Fray is compatible with ALL 1x chainrings using a chainline of 44mm or greater. The largest we have tested at this 44mm chainline is a ROUND 54T and and an ELLIPTICAL 52T. This 44mm chainline is the standard chainline that most crank manufacturers use for their 1x cranks but please consult with your crank brand if concerned with their standard on chainline measurement of their crank.
-
Note that chain ring position on the crank and Q factor can affect this so use the above as a guide as you determine 1x chainring size
- 1X: WIDE/XPLR drivetrains must be run with WIDE/XPLR Cranksets/bottom brackets (47.5 chainline crank)
-
-
How small of a chainring can you run?
- Sram minimum chanring sizes for proper front derailleur function is 46/33.
- Shimano GRX 48/31 is right on the edge of what may work, but shifting may not be optimal.
- We generally recommend using a standard double crankset or a 1x drivetrain for best performance with your ENVE frameset.
-
Is the stem available as an aftermarket product?
-
Yes. You can purchase the IN-Route Stem on www.enve.com
-
-
What is the drop on the Fray stem?
- -7 degree or + 12 degree are both offered for our IN-Route Stem.
-
What is the axle to crown measurement for the 4 rakes offered in the different size Fray frames?
- The Axle to Crown measurement on all 4 rakes of Fray fork is 380mm A-C
-
What are the Thru axle sizes and part numbers if I need a replacement?
- Please see ALL ENVE FORK THRU AXLE DIMENSIONS for those items.
-
Can I remove the front derailleur hanger and replace it with a blank plate?
- No, the front derailleur hanger is riveted to the frame. We do not offer a blank to go over that area because of this. There is a DI2 plug supplied with the frame however if you are not routing housing or wires through the frame. That said, if running a 1x instead of wanting to remove the front hanger, we'd recommend running a chain guide potentially, such as this aftermarket option: https://www.wolftoothcomponents.com/products/gnarwolf-chainguide-for-braze-on-mount
